And We Have Focus

So in past posts I mentioned that I needed to find writing focus since I was bouncing back and forth between 6 different novels. Talk about a brain overload. I started working on tying up the loose ends in Book 2 and at the same time I’ve been moving forward in Book 1.

Best decision that I’ve made in the crazy time in my head.

I’ve finally finished chapter 2 of Book 1 and Book 2 is up to 150 pages as you can see from the widget on the sidebar. The loose ends are almost all tied up!

Well back to writing! Time to finish the biggest loose end!

Thoughts on J.K. Rowling

I, in addition to many of my generation, love J.K. Rowling.

The Harry Potter books were a part of my growing up and since I’ve gotten older, I have noticed things that make me say, “Wow, I never recognized that before.”

She is a brilliant writer and a hero of mine. I read an article called “A Few Things Writers Can Learn from Harry Potter,” that has made me think even deeper about the great lessons within those books. If you would like to read it, here is the link:

Lastly, I just finished watching her speech to Harvard graduates in 2008 and there is so much that I learned there. Live with imagination and learn from failure. Great lessons!

Did you ever hear about how Pavolov trained his dog to salivate at the sound of a bell? That is called Classical Conditioning.

Pavlov's dog

Well I have unintentionally done that to myself. A few posts back I posted the Shouldn’t You Be Writing Picture with a bunch of memes with different characters from TV and movies. Well now whenever I see Sherlock, Loki, Gandalf, or any of the others, I think, I need to be writing. Haha.

Theme Songs

So I’ve been thinking a lot about theme music for my characters and kept coming up empty, until today.  I was listening to my iPod while working and one song came on and I had to start it over once it finished. I listened to it again and smiled. It is the love song for the main characters in Book 2 after they overcome a lot.

That’s 1.

Next, I was working on homework and a song kept running through my head. I thought about it for several minutes. Wow, that’s the song of the main guy to the main girl in Book 3.

That’s 2.

Lastly, I was listening to Pandora. My friend had ‘liked’ this version of Pachebel’s Canon in D on Pandora and since I wanted to listen to it I pressed the ‘Create a Station’ button. Instead of playing that particular song, it played another and (although it’s instrumental) it’s the theme song of the man character in Book 3.

That’s 3.

Wow. Who knows what more will happen. Yay for theme music!

Tying up Loose Ends

So I mentioned how my head has been bouncing back and forth between manuscripts a few posts back and I think I’ve figured out how to get my focus back. There are loose ends that I need to tie up in Book 2 before I can put my complete focus on Book 1. So my goal is to tie up those ends within the next week or so in order to get back on track with Book 1. Wish me luck!

Oh, and here’s  a quote that I completely agree with. I’m sure I’m crazier for writing 6 at once. Time to get focused!
