I’m Alive :)

Hey Everyone!

Sorry I haven’t blogged in a while. As I mentioned in my last few posts, I was in a bad writing funk. It made it so I had no idea what to even blog about. But now I’m back and should be posting weekly again🙂

In one of my last posts, I talked about reading some Brandon Sanderson novels to help me with the fantasy side of my writing.

I decided to read the Mistborn books which were so amazing and they helped me a lot. Different things characters said or did would help me realize things that I needed to develop in my own story world.

When I read those, I finally had an idea of where to start as I moved forward with writing. I did a modified version of NaNoWriMo, making it more like Camp, where I shot for 10,000 words. I got to nearly 12,000. Things are moving along well and I’m looking forward to how they work out🙂

Describe Yourself in 3 Fictional Characters

I’m sure many of you have seen these memes going around and I thought it would be fun to post one here for me🙂

Belle from Beauty & the Beast
Kaylee from Firefly
Rapunzel from Tangled

If you decide to try it out, I’d love to know which characters you come up with🙂

Help Writing

I’ve still been in a writing funk but I got some advice that can help any writers.

“Read books (or short stories, novellas, etc) within the genre that you write in.”

Since Regency Fantasy is a relatively small genre, I’ve read a lot of books set in the Regency. My next plan is to read within the Fantasy genre, starting with some Brandon Sanderson. Reading helps to open the mind to new ideas and it also has helped me to see things that I want to avoid.

If I want to be a good writer, I need to read what’s out there to improve my craft. It gets the brain working when it feels like it’s stopped.

If you’re stuck, try reading a good book. It will help.

The List of Awesome

Hey Everyone,

Sorry I missed posting last week. I had a total mind blank and couldn’t think of anything to say.

I’m working through a writing funk at the moment and it’s been more difficult than others have been prior to this time.

Usually when I’m stuck, if I just start writing about anything relating to my novel, it gets me into a groove and I keep going. That hasn’t been happening. Why?

My friend Andrea who I’ve mentioned before, gave me the advice to make a List of Awesome for my novel. Things to add to the list are events that I think would be cool if I can fit them into the book.

Though I haven’t fully figured things out, it’s nice to have this list to go to for ideas of what should come next.

The Best and Worst of Times

This year has had many emotional ups and downs for me. In April, I lost my maternal grandmother and this morning, my paternal grandmother passed away. In addition to those losses, I’ve married my best friend and found great happiness in that. I’ve also met several writing goals that have excited me.

These emotional ups and downs are a part of life but we need to take the good with the bad, the happy with the sad, and move forward with our lives.

We can’t run from the pain of loss but one thing I’ve learned is that learning from the pain can help us come closer to those that we care about. I’m grateful for a good support system.

Even though my heart is hurting right now with this most recent loss, I’m grateful that I have a loving family that supports one another. They mean the world to me.

If you’re heart is hurting for some reason or other, know that you are cared about, even if you can’t see it.

New Story Developments

I’m back!

I hope you all are doing well and that your writing goals are as well.

The honeymoon was awesome and one thing I learned is that road trips can really get my mind going.

As we drove, a thought wouldn’t leave me alone.

One of my POV characters for Topaas is not working and needs to be cut completely.

Considering the fact that he’s so major to the story, I had no idea how it would even work to cut him.

After a lot of thinking and mulling it around in my head, I believe I’ve found an answer. A side character that I really like will come and fill the void.

I’m really excited about this.

It’s certainly going to change things and I look forward to exploring this new version of the story.
